An open door, a warm welcome, a shared meal

For the ninth year running, Common Grounds will be opening our doors to welcome new friends (and old ones) to share a free Christmas Day dinner with us.

We’ll be serving up more than a hundred traditional festive meals for anyone who wants to join us.

Meals taste better when we eat together

Perhaps you are a stranger to the city of Belfast, maybe wanting a bit of warm company on a cold day, or even just looking to share a hot dinner with new friends – then join us on Friday 25th December from 12 midday until 3pm.

Along with City Church Belfast, volunteers from across Northern Ireland will be spending the afternoon of the 25th, together – helping to prepare, cook, serve and wash up. And there’ll be plenty of time for us to sit, chat, laugh and eat together. We are mix of people from all walks of life and from near and far. Last year, we served up more than one hundred meals – amazing, and were inundated with super-generous offers of help.

So much so, that we had to turn volunteers away, were given more than enough money to cover the costs, and received over a quarter of a tonne of extra food that South Belfast Foodbank bagged up and handed out to everyone who came. How good is that?

“Our Christmas meal is an opportunity for us to open up a place in our hearts, a place where we can welcome new friends and celebrate all that we have in common.”

Despite running since 2007, the meal is as popular as ever. The menu for the day hasn’t changed; it’ll be the full works – turkey and stuffing with all the trimmings, followed by Christmas pudding.  And we offer a vegetarian and halal option, too.

Dan, our café manager, said: “Our Christmas meal is an opportunity for us to open up a place in our hearts, a place where we can welcome new friends and celebrate all that we have in common.”

If you know of anyone interested, why not tell them about it – and spread the word?

By the way, we already have a full team of volunteers to help this year – and have our food supplies all sorted.

If you’d like to give, perhaps consider donating non-perishable items to South Belfast Foodbank – one of our partner charities. Have a look at the things they need most.
